Diet Pills.
Practically everywhere I go, I hear about some new miracle pill that aids weight loss. There are even entire stores devoted to them! Even if there is an abundance of different brands, how many of these products actually aid weight loss? The main issues with these products are their ridiculous prices, the effects they have on children, and the health problems caused by some of the pills.
Like psychic readings and astrology hot lines, the weight loss industry sells hope to desperate people. How much does selling “hope” get you yearly? $222 million for just the pills in the United States. With the exercise programs, equipment, and breakfast shakes added, the sum is $40 billion a year and it’s going up. So, how exactly did these numbers get so high? It starts off with either a despairing man or woman wishing to lose a few pounds. They read the promises on the bottles, see the gorgeous people on the displays, and ignorantly buy a months worth of pills, which ranges from $40-$70. Does that sounds like a good purchase?
Even though the prices are horrible the pills have to work and be risk free, right? If you thought yes, you’d be dead wrong. Many brands are either ineffective or barely work with harsh side effects. Consider the popular brand called “alli”. On their official website, it states “alli blocks 25% of the fat you eat from being absorbed, and the fat that isn’t absorbed is harmlessly passed through your bowels. As a result, you may experience some bowel changes during the first few weeks of use”. If you haven’t already guessed, that pretty much means you crap out 25% of the fat you ate that day, everyday you use alli. I also came across some information stating that a side effect is getting “gas with oily spotting”. Basically, if you’re on alli, make sure not to wear white pants. Another bad part about alli is, even though it helps a little bit, once you stop taking alli you’re definitely going to gain the weight back. This product doesn’t help you change your eating habits, just blocks out fat. Once you’re off alli, the extra 25% of your fat intact is going to come back into your diet, making it a huge waste of your time and money.
Since diet pills are horrible for adults, what about children? Normally there are terrible side effects that come with diet pills for adults, let alone children! Children will get the same side effects, plus put their growth in danger. They need nutrients because they’re growing and people get nutrients from food. If the children are fat, you shouldn’t be restricting food but instead changing their diet to something more healthy and getting them to be more active. If doing that still does nothing for your child, there is one FDA approved weight loss drug used on children. It’s called xenical and it works by blocking fat absorption. Even though xenical is approved, children under twelve aren’t supposed to take it.
It’s evident that diet pills are not the best options for weight loss. Considering that one third of the adults and 20% of the children in America are obese, it doesn’t look like the diet pills are doing their job at keeping you healthy anyways. If you want to lose weight, it’s going to take time and hard effort. There are no get out of work quick schemes for losing weight. It’s all about dieting and exercise. I wish you good luck on losing weight!

Lisa asks…
I’m a DUDE! How did I gain 3 pounds in 2 days?
Introduction and background: (If you just want the issue skip the first 3 paragraphs.)
Upon losing a job within 3 weeks, I had chosen my last resort, trying to join the Air Force. I was told by the recruiter, “Work out and lose the weight…and study for the A.S.V.A.B (via A.S.V.A.B for dummies) We can get you all set up after that.” There’s a 7-month delay upon enlistment. By the time I get shipped out to Basic, I should be able to meet the requirements. I keep trying to tell my father that I don’t need to meet the requirements BEFORE enlisting but he won’t listen.
I had my own goals of reverting back to an old program that I dropped a significant amount of weight…Which was mainly to jog everyday. But my father hijacked my weight loss goals and bullied me into a program in which I run 1.5 miles every other day and walk 4 miles otherwise. Regular jogging is what helps me lose weight…But not gain speed to make a 1.5 miles in 13 min36sec.
I tried to put a jogging day in there and I lost 1 minute of speed. I think trying to run 200 pounds of fat and small muscles along a roadside in 13 minutes is useless, I’d be better at 185 or something. But what do I know, I’m not a retired 20-year-MSGT. So my belief based on past experience and works is nothing, right? I guess so.
Now that we have the preliminary whining out of the way, let’s get to the real issue of concern:
I’ve been weighing myself on 20-year old pink analog scale…That old thing is about 8 pounds off. According to that screw job called a scale, I’ve been stuck at 210 for a month. And I’ve been weighing myself post-exercise since I was little. It seems like I have my best weights after a run day.
Last Wednesday, I bought myself a new digital scale because I was tired of that thing. I’ve been weighing myself obsessively since then.
I weighed 202.2 the day I bought it…I weighed myself again on Friday and I was 201.4. And then I weighed myself on Sunday, 201.4. I reported to my father I was 201. (Sunday is when I report progress)
I weighed myself the next day (after running) and I was 200.0. Kinda strange drop.
To be honest, I eat like a man…but I try to moderate my portions and include veggies and/or salad.
No sodas or Kool-aid…I hardly ever eat doughnuts, pie, brownies, or fast food. Every once in a while I do…But for the most part I try to stay away from junk.
I’ve been doing this the whole time…Losing about 2 pounds a week. My appetite seems to fluctuate. I won’t feel like eating anything much other than my meals I plan to eat…But other days I just seem to turn into a beast, just snacking and what have you…And drinking a lot of water…That has happened over the last few days…
I stepped on the scale today and I 203.2!
I don’t really understand this. I’m a dude, there is no TOM for me. I don’t have a menstrual cycle, menopause, or PMS. (Some of these terms may be the same thing but I think you know what I mean) But besides splurging a bit what is the real issue?
The way I see it, I have to work off FOUR POUNDS just to get to 199 so I can report to my father that I lost 2lbs. But I can only lose 2 pounds a week. I’ve been so frustrated with everything since the new year. I’ve been working my ass off and seem to make no progress…
What’s going on?
I know what I did, so just give me an intelligent solution to my problem.
–”Stop eating, you fat f*ck” is not an intelligent solution, so spare me the bull crap!

admin answers:
Well the reason you started to lose weight easily is because you were losing the water weight. The first couple of weeks is easy to lose weight, it will fluctuate a lot. You need to get past the scale part of it and focus on your body fat percentage. That will tell you if you are losing weight or not. Muscle weighs more than fat, remember. Even though you are running, it will still develop muscle in your legs. You could be losing fat, gaining muscle and still see the scale increase. That is why I say to use the body fat percentage as a guide. Keep doing what you are doing otherwise.
Also, you may want to think about swimming as a good cardio/endurance developer. Look in to ankle weights and sprint with those on. Go to a track and jog the turns sprint the straights. If you change up your routine, you will lose more weight.
Drinking water at room temp will not help you lose weight. You need to drink ICE COLD water. Your body can not absorb water when it is cold. By drinking cold water, you force your body to use extra calories to heat it up before absorbing it. You should drink water before your meals, but once again, make sure it is cold water. That way it sits in your stomach/intestines longer, causing you to feel full longer.

Sandra asks…
Is unconditional love over-rated? For the ladies..?
I always read unconditional love as a priority for women to have a serious relationship. But, I think we get into a relationship to get better, or is it just feel better?. No one is born perfect and life is a constant opportunity to achieve perfection. If someone loves you for 20 years the way you are now, you wouldn’t learn or change for good. Isn’t it a bitter loss of life? For example, if I stop exercising and gain some weight; I would want my best friend or my gf to show me the right way. After all, I wouldn’t want someone who doesn’t care that I stay the same and never improve.
Also, men don’t say this. Don’t you women think that its height of conceit to think we are all perfect today, and don’t need to improve?
Please, let me know. Thanks.

admin answers:
I think the only place you will find unconditional love is from a mother to her child (not in all cases of course)
i have never seen it in a relationship.
You cheated on some one then they would probably have to go no matter how much they love them and even in they did take them back if he did it iver and over again he would be gone

William asks…
Are rich people prejudice?
People will argue prejudice comes from a sense of an injustice, jealousy, feelings of despair, loss of hope and stereotyping poor people who seem to get more for nothing, etc.
Optional detail:
—————————————-
Rich people do not have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. They give to charities, particularly those which help the poor in inner cities, because they can afford to. They aren’t jealous of those receiving free handouts from the government because they have so much more.
They look at urban America, shake their head “tsk, tsk”, then drive to their McMansion deep in the heart of suburbia, away from “all that rot” for a quiet evening. They work (if they work) behind a desk and are surrounded by the good old men/women dressed in proper business attire they hand pick to rub elbows with. They have their concerns about where this country is going but after cigars and brandy with the men, it’s forgotten and they’ll get a good night’s sleep.
They’ll pay their taxes, griping like us all, then plan their semi annual 2 week vacation over seas. Of course they will need travel clothes and clothes for the holiday, so off to the store, before the crowds.
They have to watch their weight, because it is so easy to overeat every time they dine out each week. They have to watch their weight, because sitting behind desks doesn’t give them enough exercise. They have to watch their weight, because those chocolates from Belgium are so good.
They do not worry about school funding for their children, they are all in private schools and what the government does with its taxes is no worry to them. Their biggest worry is not paying for college, but which University will best suit them. Their children will have jobs (even if they have to give the child a job upon graduation) so the lifestyle and attitude are perpetual.
Rich people argue they are not prejudice, any reason why they should be?

admin answers:
No they are not.
They do not care what someone looks like or does away from work. As long as it doesn’t reflect poorly on the company.
They don’t care what someone looks like as long as they are productive employees.
